The secret’s out – you can clean up on free dirt from Tacoma Water.
When Tacoma Water installs or replaces water pipes or fire hydrants, we dig out the dirt around the structure, leaving a large amount of clean soil mixed with rocks that we don’t need.
This dirt – while not ideal for gardening – works well for leveling out low spots in your yard, as a foundation for raised bed gardens, or as fill for other projects.
Tacoma Water will deliver the dirt free of charge to residential and commercial customers. For delivery, you must take a minimum of 10 cubic yards, which is about enough to fill a 6 foot tall by six foot wide by six foot high space.
The maximum regular delivery is 50 cubic yards, although you may request more after completing a grading permit. More information on permits is available by calling Pierce County at (253) 798-3739.
To request delivery, complete and submit this Fill Dirt Request Form. Then, email or mail it to us.
